Time to Reflect

A Time to Reflect is a participatory installation that explores language; the way we converse with each other online and offline, and how this has shaped our past, present, and its potential impact on our futures. As humans it is often necessary to take time out, a moment to reflect, gaining a little perspective before we move on with our day, week, month or life. It’s important we feel OK about sharing our emotions and speaking around the positives as well as the negatives of all that we feel.

Mental health and wellbeing have become an important focus at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Historically, however, discussing mental wellbeing has often been seen as sign of weakness. It’s been hidden and buried, critiqued and joked about, simply perpetuating the issue.

We wanted to create a space for storytelling that would encourage conversations, reconnecting people – no matter their identity – with themselves, their emotions, and each other. This artwork provides a space to reflect on why, and what’s changing in the landscape of the city.

The installation is made up of mirror off cuts from Prentice Glass – Commercial Glazing specialists. It makes use of waste material, transforming it into something meaningful while reducing waste to landfill.
