Electro Studios Roof Garden

The Electro Studios roof garden introduces 75 sq m of planting and growing areas. It connects the local community with nature, improving biodiversity, air quality and providing a visual improvement for neighbouring properties. The flat roof to the rear of the studios presents an opportunity to activate 130 sq m of underused space, as much needed external spaces for showcasing artwork and sculpture beyond the internal gallery spaces.

Electro Studios Project Space is an independent space for curated projects in St. Leonards-on-Sea. Providing an opportunity for artists and curators to propose exhibitions and projects. Their approach is fundamentally about testing ideas through the juxtaposition of art works / events / other objects. Without prejudice, agenda, house style or party line, Electro Studios supports and encourages disparate artistic voices and is a place for debate and dialogue for curators and audience.

The design presents a light touch demountable structure that supports a series of modular hexagonal planters, plinths and seating areas. The design provides an accessible deck solution for multiple locations, bridging existing roof structures with easy install and removal to be used on future sites. The structural element has an integrated balustrade and screen to the alley and neighbouring properties. The system uses sustainably sourced materials. Its simple design can be constructed using local contractors with scope for training opportunities, while introducing water harvesting and attenuation systems to help alleviate local flooding.
