Beach House

A new landscape setting for Beach House and the wider 50-acre estate, both as a sanctuary for wildlife and as pleasing, exciting and stimulating rural surroundings for the client. Over the years Beach House has been developed in a piecemeal fashion. The project unifies the estate and better integrates the house with the landscape. A key aspiration of this proposal is to create an extension of the formal gardens and a new main entrance and driveway running from the north-east boundary of the site.

Will Sandy | Design Studio led the project, in collaboration with some of the UK’s leading authorities in ecology, heritage and planning, to ensure a robust and appropriate vision for this historic landscape setting.

Each principle works together to improve the site usability, local visual amenity and benefit the local environment. The proposal will provide Beach House with a landscape setting and sense of arrival that has been missing for some time. The proposal sets out to create a contemporary interpretation of the parkland landscapes of historic country houses and estates. This idea, in line with current environmental policy, sets out to create a landscape consisting of a rich mosaic of habitat types.
